Too Late

Shot Of The Day: August 29, 2017

QOTD: I could dream about
Things that never end
Oh, wishes on a star
Something ’round the bend

Backstory: Have a seat. What? I’m just trying to be polite. Life is a collection of losses, sorry about that. Have a seat.

Locale: Which of the street are you on? It could be West Brighton, Silver Lake or in my case it’s just T-Ville.

Equipment: Nikon D7200 / AF-S Nikkor 50mm f1.8 G

Soon

Shot Of The Day: August 28, 2017

QOTD: You could turn me down or over twice
You could treat me mean or treat me nice
But soon the time will come
I know what I put you through
The time will run away from us
Like time it will do

— Ric Ocasek

Backstory: I got a new source of warmth. The old one ran off as those things do. It’s a song in a sad key but there is still beauty in the new.

Locale: I really like Ric’s vocal and Greg’s keyboard line on this one. It’s just Tantamount, like living here in T-Ville, on the cusp of West Brighton. That’s really all there is to it.

Equipment: Nikon D7200 / AF-S Nikkor 50mm f1.8 G

B Movie

Shot Of The Day: August 25, 2017

QOTD: The idea concerns the fact that this country wants nostalgia. They want to go back as far as they can – even if it’s only as far as last week. Not to face now or tomorrow, but to face backwards. And yesterday was the day of our cinema heroes riding to the rescue at the last possible moment. The day of the man in the white hat or the man on the white horse – or the man who always came to save America at the last moment – someone always came to save America at the last moment – especially in “B” movies. And when America found itself having a hard time facing the future, they looked for people like John Wayne. But since John Wayne was no longer available, they settled for Ronald Reagan [or Donald Trump?] and it has placed us in a situation that we can only look at – like a “B” movie.

Backstory: This wardrobe trailer was on set during a shoot for the film ‘The Chaperone’ which is a period piece, circa 1940. This got me thinking about Gil Scott Heron and his view of nostalgia.

Locale: Mud Lane, Stapleton Heights

Equipment: Nikon D5500 / Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR

Youth Culture Killed My Dog

Shot Of The Day: August 24, 2017

QOTD: Youth culture killed my dog
And I don’t think it’s fair
And his suicide can be justified
By the tastemakers, how they cried and cried and so.
— They Might Be Giants

Backstory: I expected to see this fine auto driven by an old geezer (like yours truly) but instead I saw a young man behind the wheel. Damned young whippersnappers. Is nothing sacred? (Is nothing profane?)

Locale: Rosebank

Equipment: Nikon D5500 / Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR
