When The City Drops Into The Night

Shot Of The Day: March 21, 2017

QOTD:
When the city drops into the night
Before the darkness there’s one moment of light
When everything seems clear
The other side, it seems so near

Backstory: Can’t say I care much for fiddling about with the clocks but the Spring forward does give me a few more dramatic sunrises on my morning walks. And what can you say about Jim Carroll? New York’s best street poet. RIP. — TAG

Not That Much

Shot Of The Day: March 20, 2017

QOTD: I wrecked my car on a two lane freeway – a stake in my heart after lunch…

Backstory: I associate this great David Jo song with crashing my beloved 1966 Mustang (circa 1975). A woman ran a red light as I was turning left (heading east) onto Copland Blvd. from the Anthony Wayne Trail – on impact her luxury size vehicle pushed my pony car six feet sideways. She told the police that her brakes were bad and that’s why she didn’t stop. Of course, she left fifteen feet of solid black skid marks, hitting the brakes when it was far too late. I was knocked unconscious and my passenger got a punctured lung and broke his pelvis in five places. I remember being in the hospital bed, looking up at Holly J and being grateful she hadn’t been in the car. The injuries healed but losing the car still stings…I could say ‘Not that much’ but that would be telling a fib – like the woman in David’s song…the Mustang in the photo is a 1967, it still runs but I can only admire it from afar. — TAG

Funky But Chic

Shot Of The Day: March 19, 2017

QOTD:
I don’t wear nothing not too fussy or neat
I just want something to be able to walk down your street
Hey, come on, baby, let’s get on down to the boutique
Let’s bring back something that’s funky but chic

— David Johansen

My Brother’s Keeper

My Brother's Keeper
Walking to work I fell on some ice today. Trying to break my fall I injured my left wrist and hand. My right hand did not fare much better, my D200 hit the ice hard, knocking off my lens hood and breaking my LCD cover. I was unable to get up immediately – I couldn’t put any weight on my left hand. Eventually I rolled to my right, planted my knee and stood. This man came over to help me. He asked, “Did you break your machine?” I handed him my LCD cover and said, “I don’t know, let’s find out.” This man, and others like him, are the people Mr. Trump would scapegoat. Let’s hope Trump never falls down. There may be no one left to ask if he’s okay, to help him up, to be his keeper.

Like The Gods Of Old

In a coach of blue I’m gonna love you too,
Like the gods of old, I’m gonna get my teeth into you.

QOTD:
Your mama said, “clean out your head boy, don’t lay nothing on my child”
Your friends they said, “Your head’s in a noose boy lay some boogie on our minds”
And we stood like the rapids and I was like a new born child.

— Marc Bolan

Backstory: I think NYC Arts Cypher is all about laying some boogie on our minds. It’s as Blixa Bargeld said – our future may not be bright but at least it’s colourful. In the time of Trump a little street art and some T.Rex might help to see us through. — TAG
