Shot Of The Day: January 31, 2017

QOTD: Life in the air age is grim enough to make a robot cry.
— Bill Nelson

Thank You For Sending Me An Angel

Shot Of The Day: January 30, 2017

QOTD:
I will fight, will fight with my heart.
I will fight, will fight with understanding.
In my mind, the weather never changes.
Skill overcomes, difficult situations.

— David Byrne (Talking Heads)

Life During Wartime

Shot Of The Day: January 30, 2017

QOTD:
The sound of gunfire, off in the distance,
I’m getting used to it now
Lived in a brownstore, lived in the ghetto,
I’ve lived all over this town

— David Byrne (Talking Heads)

Backstory: The U.S. is not technically at war right now but here in Trump Nation it sure feels like it. Truth will be the first casualty. — TAG

Locale: Stapleton Heights – we don’t need no Trump Tower here baby.

Signs, Signs, Everywhere A Sign…

A few of the many great, mostly handmade, signs I spotted at the 2017 Women’s March on NYC:
Signs, Signs, Everywhere A Sign (1)
“The Emperor has no clothes and a really tiny penis.”

Signs, Signs, Everywhere A Sign (2)
“Urine Trouble!”

Signs, Signs, Everywhere A Sign (3)
“Say no to Twitler.”

Signs, Signs, Everywhere A Sign (4)
“Keep your tiny hands off of my rights.”

Signs, Signs, Everywhere A Sign (5)
“Romanian immigrant paying taxes, fighting for all women.”

Wait, there’s more:
“Make America think again.”
“140 letters do not equal character.”
“You can’t comb over racism.”
“Make racists afraid again.”
“The KKK is celebrating and we’re resisting. Which side are YOU on?”
“You ain’t seen nasty yet.”
“Fight like a girl.”
“Pussy power.”
“Our rights are not up for grabs.”
“Raising our children to tear down your wall.”
“Free Melania.”

And lastly, one of my favourites:
In your guts you know he’s nuts.

Wind Up

Shot Of The Day: January 29, 2017

QOTD:
I don’t believe you:
You had the whole damn thing all wrong —
He’s not the kind you have to wind up on sundays.

— Ian Anderson

Backstory: Every time I think about my top ten albums I omit Aqualung. I don’t know why…but often, walking home, I find myself singing, ‘I don’t believe you, you have the whole damn thing all wrong…’ I know the song so well that my cadence is right and I manage to stay in key even as I walk uphill. Clearly this is my favourite Tull song – and Aqualung is indeed one of my all time favourite albums. I thank god that I got to see Tull’s Warchild tour. Ian Anderson is amazing both as an innovative flutist and as a great singer. — TAG

More Songs About Buildings And Food

Shot Of The Day: January 27, 2017

QOTD: Judy’s in the bedroom, inventing situations. Bob is on the street today, scouting up locations…
— David Byrne

Backstory: This is another angle on the Otto W. Pape building in Stapleton, a classic flatiron design. The music is a bit tangential but so are the times we live in. While the government gorges themselves on the Seven Deadly Sins I’m in the streets, scouting my favourite locations. — TAG

The Show Must Go On

Shot Of The Day: January 26, 2017

QOTD: No miracles. No mercy. No redemption. No Heaven. No Hell. No higher power. Just life. Just… us.
— Batman

Backstory: This is Brendan a member of Theatrical Teamsters Local 817. When I met him he was working on Union Place near the Paramount Theatre. The shuttered venue was used as a set for Gotham – the episode aired on January 16 – and on the day I shot this portrait it was being used as a set for Marvel’s ‘The Defenders’ aka ‘Group Therapy’ (the working title). — TAG

When The Rain Comes

Shot Of The Day: January 25, 2017

QOTD: If the rain comes they run and hide their heads. They might as well be dead…
— The Beatles
[click here to view full size image]

Backstory: I’ve thought about this song many times over the last 58 years. Consequently I venture out into the rain, looking for others who do the same. I have rain gear for myself and my cameras. And I’ve discovered that some great photo ops are waiting to be found. — TAG
